ABOUT the Anatolian

Well, the Anatolian is me, and I am a man torn between two passions: Part of me belongs to the sea, and the other half is devoted to video productions. But, I am usually able to find a happy medium: I often make programs about the deep blue.

I have been employed by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology and Texas A and M University as an underwater explorer for more than twenty years. I have been instrumental in finding many shipwrecks, played a prominent role in all of the underwater excavations since 1975, developed a number of underwater technologies, in short, I am very much dedicated to the underwater world.

My video and production experience dates even further back. I made and assisted productions during my college years. When I was involved in underwater research  projects, I used my production skills to promote and publicize the projects. Some of my undertakings are, in fact, small milestones: With my initiative, Turkish Television produced their first color TV program about Serce Limani 11th. Century Shipwreck Excavation that I was a member of. A few weeks ago, I reminisced those days with Turkish Television's managers of the time that I worked with.

These days productions and underwater research go hand in hand. I feel like I owe to the public to tell them about my underwater world, and is there a better way to tell it than television programming?

In 2001 winter season, I produced 'Denizin Sesi' weekly TV show for NTV, the respected news-documentary Television Channel of Turkey. The program translates to 'Voice of the Sea'. The web site is in Turkish but take a look if you wish to have an idea about it. My goal was to let the Turkish public know about this fantastic historic wealth that is buried in the waters of Turkey.

I also wrote a book titled 'History in Our Seas', again, to let the world know about these incredible historic treasures buried in the deep blue seas of Turkey.

Well, I have to admit, my underwater research has precedence over production projects, but I try to have time to enjoy both.
